Animals!

I think that these four cats get along when they're alone, it's only when I'm around do they fight and run around with each other. The cat on the ground was on the second highest platform and jumped down right when I peeked into the room. The white cat was laying down on the futon, too.

This is Snowy, she's the neighbors' cat. I've had her since about May 4th and they'll be back around June 5th or 6th. It took her about three weeks to get comfortable around here. She's still not on very friendly terms with all the other animals. She's a growler but she's cute.

And of course my boyfriend's kitten, Dib, had to play with the camera strap.

SO. It's upside-down shepherd's pie tonight! with tater tots and green beans on the side. Perfect mushy goodness. I still cannot open my mouth wider than two fingers. It's been too long. I'm dying for a big burrito or some sushi but no.

And I gave Tucker a bath, but I didn't take a picture. Here are two older ones:

In this one it looks like he's licking the lolli. I think his eyes look cute, hah

Haven't been back in a while

After the surgery, I got other various ailments. Even today, I feel like crap and I've been taking Pepto Bismol like it's no tomorrow. By the way, I'm pretty sure it's vegan. At least this particular off-brand is (Top Care). And it tastes like thick, minty chalk water.

So my three-week British and Irish Literature summer course is over on Friday. It's been a craptastic blast. My professor is constantly giggling with her old as dirt teaching assistant who can't teach worth a shit.

Starting June 1st or 2nd I have another summer class, and maybe one more. I'm pretty sure one starts before the other and ends before the other one too. Whoever made up this summer's schedule clearly didn't have to take any of these classes...

So anyway, my boyfriend and I wated Jesus Camp and Milk the other night.
Jesus Camp was crazy! And Milk was really good and very sad. I loved it.

So now I'll continue to watch Scifi made-for-TV movies and perhaps I'll post some pictures later.

Post-Wisdom Teeth surgery

I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth surgically removed today. I love being put to sleep for dental work; it takes out the 'work' of sitting still. I tend to fidget a lot I guess.

The proceedure was done by 8am and I woke up closer to 9am. I'm just now feeling some harsh pain, but I'd been putting ice on my face every other half our and taking Advil all day. I took one of the pain pills I was prescribed about a half an hour ago so maybe I won't sleep too badly.

I hate not being able to chew food! I'm craving al dente pasta and oreo cookies like nobody's business.

Meal before my 7hr no food, no drink before the surgery:
11pm 5/6/09
2 biscuits, one with Mayhaw jelly and one with a veggie burger + a packet of Polynesian sauce on it.
a handful of tortilla chips
a teeny slice of coffee flavored rum cake
homemade sweet tea and water

What entered my body today:
5 or 6 glasses of water
various pills (pain, antibiotics...)
2 yogurt cups ( one Silk strawberry banana, one raspberry)
plus a bite of another yogurt cup (the chocolate-flavored So Delicious w/ coconut milk was so awful I couldn't eat more than a bite)
a couple of mandarin segments, they were hard to eat
a large mug of homemade tomato-dill soup with 1/2 of a wheat hambuger bun mixed in
about 1/3 cup of couscous with cumin, garlic powder, and Smart Balance light***
1 medium banana with half dipped in a peanut butter & chocolate mixture

and I washed my mouth with 8 oz. salt water

In order to survive at my parents' house I have a grocery list for tomorrow:
3 avocados
whole wheat bread
broccoli and spinach and/or kale (or a blended soup)
2 cans of coconut milk, lite
OJ with no pulp, plus calcium
2 packages of silken tofu
2 sweet potatoes

I feel like there might be more on my actual list, but I cannot remember. Medicine might be getting to me.

and maybe:
Bragg's liquid aminos
ground flax meal
if someone feels like trekking over to the (pretty much lone) HFS of Mobile, AL

***I was always under the impression that Smart Balance light is vegan. However, the tub here at my parents' has lactic acid in it. It's the type with flax oil, so maybe that has something to do with it? Not sure, just throwing it out there

Vegan Exchange!

So the vegan package exchange between some lovely users on Veggieboards.com turned out very cool. I definitely want to do it again the next time around.

Picking out things to send is like a treasure hunt and getting a package full of crazy things you've never seen before is totally fun!

this all came from Finland
(I was going to name my sender's username but now I'm deciding not to... privacy)

3 packages of licorice pastilles
-Cloudberry
-Pear
-Raspberry
Flax licorice
Wiener nougat (almond nougat)
Nettle-flavored noodles
2 "bulls eye" which I think are chocolate cones on sticks
-plain
-mint
2 boxes of soup mix
-Blueberry-raspberry
-Tomato-basil
Veggie Burger mix
Garlic basil crackers
"Valamo Monastery's Sleeping Tea"
3 pretty homemade rose pop-up cards + envelopes
a little blank notebooklet

and a cat nip toy. Chloe enjoyed it thoroughly (the box as well). She hogged it to herself while Dib watched on. Then, when she was done making it all slobbery she gave it a rest. Dib investigated but had more fun playing with the camera strap while I was taking pictures. Poppy was so uninterested she didn't even come watch. Tucker was all-the-while squeaking his carrot waiting to be played with.

Art History: Ancient and Medieval Art

The semester's over and finals are almost over as well. I really will miss this class...
I really like the smaller classes; people talk more instead of just sitting there, bored.

I thought I'd post some of my favorite pieces we've studied over these past weeks.

Nike of Samothrace
Sainte-Chapel
Milan Chathedral
Pyramids of Giza
Aphrodite at Knidos
and Two Bison!

Breakfast, 5/3/09

Apple Pie oat bran!
It's not the best picture ever but if you can manage to not be a complete dolt & cause the bran to overflow in the microwave (if you're lazy and choose the 'wave over the stove like me) and only end up with about 1/3 cup of hot cereal-- it tastes pretty awesome. Even so, I could not finish the bowl, it's pretty filling especially after that yogurt

1/3 cup Oat Bran
>.>plus 1 cup water
Molasses
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
1 Granny Smith apple
Honey/Agave/sweetener (optional, especially if you use a sweet apple)

Microwave the bran with the water in a large bowl for about 3 minutes. Let it stand for about 2 more minutes. I find that it works best when it's taken out of the microwave to set.

Add about a teaspoon or two of molasses, a dash of cinnamon, and a tiny pinch/grate of nutmeg. You can drizzle on sweetener if you like.

As for the apple: peel and grate it. You can add it before you cook the bran if you like it mushy or you can add it in with all the other fixings if you like a little crunch. Nuts would be good too if you want more crunch!

I also had some yogurt with some flax meal and 2 tablespoons of pine nuts mixed in. YUM
(Silk Alive, strawberry-banana flavor)

This blog...

This blog is basically for my benefit. I want to fill it with pictures of food I make, movie stuff, and the occasional news article. It will most likely be pretty boring to an outsider so... Auf Wiedersehen
